Access rules
How to decide who can use your community's tools, using your Roblox group.
The idea
An access rule says: this person, or everyone with this rank or role, gets this level. The levels are manager and member.
Rules only ever give access. A person gets the highest level of any rule they match. If no rule matches, they have no access.
Owners are not set by rules. They are set when the community is made.
Three kinds of rule
Rules for Discord roles are on their way. They need Discord sign-in, which isn't ready yet.
- A Roblox user: one person, by username or number.
- A minimum rank in a Roblox group: everyone at that rank or higher. Ranks go from 0 to 255.
- A role in a Roblox group: everyone with that role. Pick your own group first. TeamALA shows its roles.
Adding a rule
- Open Access rules in the manage portal.
- Choose the level, manager or member.
- Choose who: a user, a rank or a role. Fill in the box that goes with it.
- Add the rule. It works on the person's next visit.
Owners can add rules for managers and members. Managers can only add rules for members.
Check before you trust it
Use Check access. Type a Roblox username or number and TeamALA shows which rules match, what level that gives, and whether each source of information answered. A rule whose source doesn't answer does not match.
Removing a rule
Remove a rule from the list. If it is the rule that gives you your own access, TeamALA asks you to tick a box first, so you don't lock yourself out. A manager can't remove the rule that gives them their own access. Ask an owner.
Every rule you add or remove goes in the audit log.
